Job Title: Audit and Accounts Trainee

Job Description:

The position is for a trainee accountant working with the audit and accounts department in the preparation and submission of annual accounts and audits.

We are looking for a person who is self-motivated, with good organisational skills and can confidently work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines. We are looking for a confident communicator, able to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels within the business and our clients.

You will be responsible for day-to-day administration and processing of accounts, managing deadlines and working within a compliance and regulated sector.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with financial and management accounts preparation for Sole Traders, Partnerships and Limited Companies
  • Assisting with managing client expectations and deadlines
  • Assist with audits as required
  • Assisting with general administrative duties including meeting and greeting clients, filing and supporting the team to meet deadlines as required

Requirements:

  • You will ideally be a graduate with a 2:1 or first class degree (or expected)
  • Excellent computer skills, with an expertise in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Word
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams and SharePoint (an advantage)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact confidently with individuals at all levels, including clients.
  • Awareness of good accounting and regulatory practice
  • Experience of working within a client centred environment where client satisfaction is paramount (desirable but not essential)
  • Working knowledge of accounting software (an advantage) but full training will be provided
  • Excellent numeracy skills
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy excellent time management and focus on meeting strict deadlines
  • Demonstrate strong team working skills
  • The ability to handle sensitive information with the utmost discretion and maintain confidentiality

Job Title: Tax Support Trainee

Job Description:

As a member of the Tax Support department with a leading firm of Chartered Tax Advisers, the chosen candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the tax department.

Tax Support are responsible for providing high-level support to the tax department, the wider team and the Directors. There will be regular interaction with team members, HMRC and clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Support a thriving tax team with various assignments
  • Ensure that statutory deadlines for the filing of tax returns are achieved, liaising with clients efficiently where additional information is required
  • Assist with the management of a portfolio of clients and act as point of contact for enquiries
  • Work flexibly as part of the wider team. This may mean assisting colleagues from time to time in support of the efficient operation of the practice
  • Preparation and filing of tax returns in a timely manner
  • Keep up-to-date with taxation news and regulations, knowledge sharing across the team
  • Build strong rapport with clients, proactively handling queries and problem solving
  • Champion your own professional development, undertaking training opportunities
  • Review & process tax post received
  • Liaise with tax enquiry insurance provider to request quotes and raise final fees
  • Submit self-assessment tax returns and corporation tax returns
  • Maintain client database for all information received
  • Prepare tax return progress reports to share with the tax team
  • Prepare letters for client and HMRC relating to various tax matters - appeal penalties, change accounting periods, etc
  • Draft professional clearance letters requesting new client information
  • Preparation of self-assessment tax returns from information provided by clients – for review by tax manager
  • Dealing with HMRC regarding PAYE coding notices, overpayments, issue of tax returns, etc
  • Checking HMRC calculations and reconciling to computations submitted
  • Registering new clients with HMRC – processing of forms 64-8, SA1, CWF1, etc
  • Corporation tax compliance – dealing with notices issued by HMRC, reconciling, etc
  • Draft taxation fees
  • Prepare bespoke engagement letters
  • Provide information requested by client for mortgages, etc
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the tax department, wider team and the Directors

Requirements:

  • You will ideally be a graduate with a 2:1 or first class degree (or expected) from a mathematical or engineering background
  • Excellent time management with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • A proactive and resourceful mindset to identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and propose effective solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact confidently with individuals at all levels, including clients
  • Being flexible and open to change, as the responsibilities and demands may vary in a dynamic work environment
  • An excellent eye for detail to ensure accurate administration of client records, financial information and ensuring compliance with industry regulations
  • Proficiency in using a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and practice management systems. Advanced Excel skills would be particularly beneficial
  • The ability to handle sensitive information with the utmost discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Collaborative skills to work effectively with colleagues across different departments and contribute to a positive and supportive work environment
