Charities: Let Us Help

Charities Update

As if the recession wasn’t making managing a charity difficult enough, recent vat tribunal decisions, tax changes and new charity commission regulations mean that getting good nights sleep is becoming increasingly difficult for many charity trustees and chief executives.

We can help. At Hodge Bakshi we have a team of dedicated charity experts ready to work in partnership with you to minimise the risks your charity faces. Many of our team have experience of being trustees actively involved in the running of local charities and, as such, can fully empathise with the problems you may be facing. Most of our team are skilled accountants each with over 15 years experience of working with charities with turnovers from £10,000 to £10,000,000. Yes we can help you to prepare your accounts in the latest Charity SORP format and yes we can perform an audit efficiently and professionally but the depth of our experience means we can do much more than this. For instance:

  • We have been engaged by a local charity grant/loan funder to undertake their pre-investment due diligence. Our work has seen us helping small and medium sized charities to develop their business plans and, where necessary, work with trustees to help secure the charity’s future.
  • We have been invited to work in partnership with several large international charities based throughout Europe in order restructure a jointly owned organisation based in Brussels.
  • All our charity clients have access to our vat consultants. We actively encourage our clients to contact us on a regular base to ensure they do not inadvertently fall foul of the complex vat regulations which affect charities.
  • We know that no two charities are the same. We can work with your finance team to put in place an accounts system tailor made to meet the needs of both your operational management team and the board of trustees.
  • We are aware that the recession has meant that many charities are looking to develop new sources of income. We have a highly motivated tax team who can work with you and can advise you on the tax implications of your future plans and whether or not a trading subsidiary may be needed.

We feel confident that the attentive service from our knowledgeable team of professionals can add value to any charity and, who knows, you may find yourself sleeping soundly again!
